The Christmas Story – Digital Style

What IF Jesus had been born during the time of Google, Wikipedia, Facebook and Twitter?

The Truth would still be the same.

Now this is how The Drummer Boy should be done!

Preferred Bible Translation Results

I had hoped to have these results posted earlier, but life got in the way.  Also, I would have liked to have had a larger survey sample, but it is what it is.

So, what do you think the top vote was for the #1 preferred Bible translation?

English Standard Version with 25% of the votes!

The rest of the results are as follows:

Halfway to Making a Difference

As I posted in October, I am trying to lose weight using My Fitness Pal.  I am VERY pleased with my progress so far.

I can now officially say I have lost 15 pounds!

YAY!

However, I am not finished yet. My goal is to lose about 30 pounds – maybe more – so I guess you can say I am halfway to my goal.  As a part of this process, my intent is to make a donation per pound of weight loss.  Here is where I want your input.

Should I donate $1 or more per pound lost to a charity or other group?

If so, which group? Samaritan’s Purse? Charity:Water? Love146? Is there another group you have in mind?

Should I donate a pound of food (ironic isn’t it?) for each pound lost to a local food bank?

Other ideas?

So far I have received a few really good ideas, but I’m looking for others.  C’mon, brainstorm with me! Challenge me! Tell me your ideas in the comments below.

Even better, join me in this challenge!

I challenge you to join me in this challenge.  Do yourself some good and help others in the process.

If you end up using myfitnesspal, my ID is GsimmonsSC.  We can encourage each other.

This is Christmas?

Black Friday has passed. This year seemed to be crazier than earlier years. Fighting over waffle makers, pepper sprayed customers, injured shoppers. For what?!

Stuff.

Landfill fodder.

Really?

We spend so much money to sell Christmas so cheaply.  Then so many still feel empty when Christmas is over.  Maybe more stuff isn’t the answer.

What is your preferred Bible translation?

Whether you read from a Bible daily or only listen during when someone else reads, I want to know which translation you prefer.  I conducted a similar survey about a year ago and was frankly quite surprised at the the top preferred translation. So, here we are a year later so let’s do the survey again!  This time, there are a few changes. I added a translation and added questions about how you use/access your preferred translation.

After you take the survey, please urge your friends and family to help us out. You can share this post via Facebook or Twitter by using one of the buttons next to the post.

Thanks again for participating this year!

Where Does Boldness Come From?

I like this verse.

The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

Acts 4:13 NLT

It reminds me that God uses uneducated, common people to serve and reach others. Here we see that the crowd perceived that Peter and John were uneducated and common. Perceived is defined as “detected by instinct or inference”. In other words, it was obvious that Peter and John were common. Perhaps it was their speech, or mannerisms or clothing, but their common, uneducated state was clear.

The cool part? The crowd was astonished (filled with surprise or shock) at Peter and John’s boldness. The last sentence is key:

“And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.”

It was obvious these were common, ordinary, uneducated men. They did not have the “knowledge” or “training” of the religious leaders and spoke with boldness. The only answer? They had been with Jesus.

Jesus was the source of their boldness.

Dave Ramsey – “All debt is dumb.”

As you know, I’m a huge fan of Dave Ramsey.  Michelle and I are currently going through Financial Peace University on our way to complete debt freedom.

Below is a GREAT interview Dave gave Piers Morgan of CNN.  I especially enjoyed the way Dave answered some loaded questions from Piers.

What do you think? Is all debt dumb?

You Should Be ‘At the Movies’

Lifechurch.tv launched At the Movies X this week. This is an amazing series looking at familiar Hollywood movies and using their stories to teach deeper messages.

Watch the trailer below for a better idea, then go catch the next installment!

Veteran’s Day Prayer

Today is Veteran’s Day. At the 11th hour on this 11th day of the 11th month, the armistice to end World War I was signed. WWI has been called the Great War or The War to End All Wars, but sadly war continues.

Today we remember those that have laid down their lives for our country. I urge you to stop for a moment, remember them and pray for their families as that loss is one they will never forget.
